Cystotomy- A surgical opening created in the wall of the urinary bladder.
Reasons for performing a cystotomy include repair of bladder trauma, biopsy or resection of the bladder masses, removal of calculi, biopsy and culture of the bladder wall in severe cystitis cases to name just a few. Of course, we will do everything possible to diagnose if this sort of procedure is necessary. Some resources include x-rays(digital), ultrasound, urinalysis and sometimes urine cultures.
Some symptoms include:
- Blood in the urine.
- Urinating in small spurts.
These symptoms are not specific to just cystotomy(s) rather a guideline that if your pet should have any of these symptoms they should receive medical attention as soon as possible. The absolute best thing to do if any of these symptoms appear in your pets’ urine/behavior, is to give us a call and schedule an appointment. Remember, the longer you wait, the more progressed your pets’ condition becomes resulting the need for increased treatment.
